Adding a website to the Pop-Up Blocker Exclusion List in Windows XP Service Pack 2

Description
  • Computers running Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) that can't view certain pages, need to have them listed in the pop-up blocker exclusion list.
  • Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) includes a built in pop-up blocker, which will interfere with viewing certain websites.
  • Follow the steps below to check your windows version and to exclude the website from the pop-up blocker.


Note:

You must be logged in to the computer with administrative rights in order to successfully exclude a website from the pop-up blocker.

  • Click Start.
  • Click on Run.
  • Type in the word winver.
  • Click OK.


Result:

Here is where you can determine if the Operating System has SP2 installed:


If:
 

  • The version is Windows XP Service Pack 2, then go to Step 2.
  • The version is anything else, no further action is needed.

  • Open Internet Explorer.
  • Click Tools.
  • Click Pop-Up Blocker.
  • Click Pop-Up Blocker Settings.

     

Result:

The Pop-up Blocker Settings Dialog box will appear:

  • Type thewebsite.com in the "Address of Web site to allow:" field.
  • Click Add.


Note:

Do NOT add: www.thewebsite.com or http://www.thewebsite.com

Click Close.

Result:

You have successfully added thewebsite to the exclusion list, so that pop-ups are allowed in thewebsite.
